Horno a 180ºC.

It is not the first time I go to the kitchen for something and I end up baking a cake.  That's what happened on Tuesday.  I was really tired and I went to the kitchen to make some tea.  While the water boilt I began to think that I didn't have any muffins left and wouldn't it be nice to bake some more, it only takes a momento to bake them... or maybe .. what about some cake.... muffins or cake... do I have the ingredients?.. .Cake it was and I had my tea cold, I even forgot how tired I was.

I always use the same basic cake recipe because I know it by heart and it is very easy.  This time instead of using the yogurt cup, I've used the cup measure you can see in the photo.

The ingredients were:

3 eggs
1 cup of buttermilk
1/2 cup of olive oil (not strong), the original recipe is a cup but I didn't have any more olive oil and the cake was still very good.
2 cups of brown sugar
3 cups of flour (I put two cups of spelt flour and one cup of wholemeal spelt flour)
1 tablespoon of baking powder
1 apple (granny was the one I had)
a bit of lemon juice and some lemon zest
some cinnamon
and whatever you have at home, raisins, dried berries, nuts.

I put the flour in a bowl with the baking powder.  In another bowl I mixed eggs, sugar, buttermilk, cinnamon and olive oil and then I add the apple grated and lemon zest and lemon juice.  After this I poured it in the flour bowl and mixed well again.  Oven at 180º C between 45 - 60 minutes it depends on the baked tin you use and on the oven as well.

It is really delicious and there is not much left.  My family has asked me to write the recipe so I don't forget.  And here it is.

This is the bread for this weekend.  It is still hot from the oven and you can hear the crust.  As always I used some sourdough (rye).  On Tuesday I took a spoon of the sourdough I have in my fridge and add the same amount of rye (whole) flour and water.  On Wednesday morning (yesterday) I did it again.  The reason is that the sourdough will be more active when I used it for my bread and I don't need yeast at all, just water and flour.
Yesterday evening I mixed the sourdough with rest of ingredients:  500 gr of flour (rye and white wheat), some seeds and oatmeal, 350 gr of water and 10 gr. of salt.  I just mixed everything together but I didn't knead it.  I left for an hour or so on the counter in the kitchen and then I put it in the fridge until today.
This afternoon, at 17:00, when I arrived home, I took it out of the fridge and let it be for an hour before shaping the bread.  This is so the dough is not so cold.  Once I shaped it I had let it on the "banetton"  for an hour and half or so (I was doing some cross-stitch and I didn't pay much attention to the time).  Oven at 250º C the first 20 minutes and then at 220º C 40 minutes more. And here is my bread.
I haven't cut it yet because it is still to hot.  I'll see tomorrow how it looks inside, this can be sometimes a pleasant surprise or a bad surprise, I hope it is OK.

Last week I found that in Hulucrafts (an internet yarn shop based in the U.K.) they had some yarns I was looking for.  The yarns in question where Rico Organic, Rico Alpaca and Rico Cotton.  With Rico Organic I made the cable cushion (the one in the photo).  I need more to knit the back part of the cushion.  Rico Alpaca yarns were some of the yarns I bought when I went to Bath in November.  I am using them to make another knitted cushion as well and again I needed more for the back.  Because I am using cotton yarn for the striped summer cushion and it is very similar to Rico cotton yarns, I asked for more of them just in case I didn't have enough.

Well, I am very happy with my order from Hulucrafts.  I was amazed because I ordered it on March 20 and I have received it on March 26.  Just a week from U.K. to Malaga, Spain, and I had choosen the cheapest transport option.  It is very nice when things go this well.

De momento algo he hecho.

Relajarme y disfrutar.

Espero que os hayan gustado.

This weekend I have mostly been playing with my yarns.  These  are yarns I bought in february.  I still don't know what I am going to do with them but I've playing with colours and patterns.  It is funny because the first thing I thought when I bought them was:  No more granny squares.  I have had enough with the two blankets I did before and during Christmas.  But in the end, I reached the conclusion that I want to make granny squres with them.  They are the right yarn for them.

I think one is born with creativity or not.  Well I don't have much and it takes me forever to combine colours.  I just cannot see the result until I have finished whatever I am doing.  It doesn't matter if I draw it, the result is sometimes good sometimes it is not.  This time, I decide to start playing with them and see some combinations.  As you can see I did like the first square that I went on doing more combinations with the same colours.  It is a pity you don't see them at natural because the photo doesn't reflect right the realty.  They are so beautiful.  I will continue with them.

As you can see I also tried other combinations that I did like as well.  I will keep playing and well see what comes out of it.

On Friday I bought some thread and it is the first time I used them in crochet.  I did some lace crochet (I don't know if it is called like this). I followed two differents patterns and here they are.  They look small, delicate and beautiful.  I would like to find a pattern or something to make a shawl or a scarf for this summer.

The next picture it is that of a summer pillow for my room.  I bought the yarn (cotton) in Switzerland and I should have bought more because they are really nice and they were very cheap.  It is a pity as well about the pictures (today there is not a good light to make them).

I have done some knitting as well.  It is the first time I used the circular needles.  I'll talk to you about this proyect in another post because it has some history in it.  This will be a shawl for me for next winter.  The only difficulty is the increase at the beginning and at the end of it and using this type of needle.

Then I am doing another winter pillow.  I still have to master knitting the cable parts because I do them as I can but I need to learn to do them better.  There are still many cables ahead so I think I'll practice a lot.

Last thing today is cross-point.  I am trying to do some cross-point every week a bit.  It is going slow but it is going.  I have already done some girls in the picture.  I know it doesn't look like much but they have lots of different colours and it takes time.

Well, this is about everything I have open right now.  Is it too much?  Best part is that I can finish them when I want.  No stress what so ever.  This summer, next winter... it doesn't matter.  What matter is to have fun and enjoy doing them.  For me it is nice and relaxing, and tha's the most important thing.

Well, this is the bread for the weekend.  Mine is the small one.  This is not a light bread because it has a great deal of rye flour.  The ingredients of this bread are:  200 gr. sourdough, 250 gr. rye flour (I put a photo of this flour last week), 250 gr of white flour (organic), some seeds, 10 gr of salt and 350 gr of water.

I think I had left the dough fermenting much longer than it was necessary but last week the weather was some days warm and some days cold and this affect the dough some.

Anyway I must say that the bread tastes really good and it has a lot of flavour because of the sourdough and the rye flour.  Last year I used to make breads like that.  We like them a lot but people here in the south are not used to it and not everyone likes them.

Well, here they are, the bag and the scarf.

I have the idea of making this bag since I saw it in one of Tilda's book.  In september I bought the fabric and in December I found the bambu handles in Bath (England).  The fabric is the one used for the traditional flamenca dress.  I love it.

In October I tried making the bag following the instructions in the book.  They were hard to follow and not because of the english.  I also used my new sewing machine for the first time.  All in all, I was quite happy with the bag and it was the gift for my mother's birthday.

Last week I was thinking what I could give to my sister for her birthday.  I was already working on the scarf but I thought I could do something else as well.  On Friday I decided to make this bag.

I have used the cutting board and the cutter for fabric for the first time.  My mother gave them as Christmas gifts, but until now I haven't been able to try them.  I was really impressed with them. I like how the cutter cut the fabric, fast and clean.  Just perfect.  Before sewing with my sewing machine I had to make a try first because this was probably the third time I've ever used it.  Again, I must say that I was happy, it is easy enough that I sew everything together in no time at all.  Anyway I know I have to practice more with it and I hope it can be soon.

When I was going to sew the fabric around the handles I stopt to think if that was going to work OK.  I know one can wash the fabrics without a problem but I don't know if you can wash the handles.  So in the end I decided to do it like in the photograph. I took me some time to sew everything but I think it solves the problem.

I must say I am very happy with the result.  Next bag it will be for me.

The scarf was the other gift.  I have begun it a month or so ago.  Truth is that I haven't worked much with it, only now and them until last week.  The yarn is Katia - Brisa and it is rose.  It is not the easiest yarn to work with because it splits a lot and it is not very soft as well, but for summer it is OK, and the colour is one I knew my sister would like.  I followed a very easy pattern and it wasn't that much work.  I still have some yarn left and I told my sister that if she wanted the scarf longer I could make it so.  But after trying it today, (the person is my sister) we decided it was well like that.  It is a pity the first photo of the scarf is not better, but I finished it yesterday night and couldn't find light good enough for the picture.

Well, hope you like it.

Today was my sister's birthday.  There were presents (mine are the one in the first photo) and birthday cake as well.

I didn't bake the cake.  I am not that good yet although if I practice a lot I may be able to make something like that one day : ) .  The cake is a Sacher Cake.  It is her favorite cake.

My sister likes chocolates and sweets a lot.  So there were some sweet things as presents as well.  They are mine for her.  In this picture there is a birthday card.  That's is from my mother and she made it.  My mother always makes us beautiful and special cards for our birthdays..  She put a lot of work in the cards.   I cannot show you the inside because she makes them personals.  I think it is really a lovely thing and something to remember.

My other two presents were the bag, a summer bag, and a scarf for the summer as well.  I made both of them and I am quite happy with the result. I finished the scarf yesterday evening.  My sister is the person on both photographs.

The only thing I couldn't give her, but I will, is cookie dough, american cookie dough.  She's been asking for this for quite a while.  She will freeze it and the bake them whenever she likes.  I just didn't have the time to make the dough yesterday, but I will as soon as I can.
